configuration asphalt track is 3/4th of a mile long and averages 25 feet in width. with 12 turns of various radii and over 500 feet of straight away, it’s a constant challenge for both the novice and taken the usa kid kart category by storm. the engine has a low entry price, and a predicted 100+ hours of reliable operation. the engine is sealed direct from honda, with no internal modifications allowed, providing a fair playing field so racers can focus on driving improvement instead of buying more horsepower. briggs lo206 the briggs lo206 engine currently represents the greatest number of race entries at pkra, in junior 1, junior 2, senior, and masters classes, and is very popular in national race series. this entry level 4-cycle is popular for it's low cost of ownership. the sealed block achieves parity without costly blueprinting. the engine has proved to be very reliable, and even short block replacement at end of life is very affordable. tire life is also very good. yet at this low price point, the racing is always close, with lots of passing. world formula briggs and stratton world formula 4-cycle is a step up from lo206. we run a limited class using the blue coil which allows for more aggressive gearing and which also appears to have made this engine significantly more reliable. with 30% more power than the lo206, it's a good choice for those who want a little more without breaking the bank. 100cc tag 100cc tag is the smaller air cooled cousin of the 125cc tag. this isn't your dad's kt100 - these newer engines are designed for reliability and low maintenance. their more modest power (22hp) vs 125cc tag (30 something hp) makes them a good choice for the less experienced driver, but are a step up from the 4-cycle engines. another factor in the affordability of this class is the use of the same tire compound as the 4-cycle class, which wears less than the softer tires in the 125cc tag class. this class is new to pkra, but it is gaining popularity elsewhere, and is expected to become a sizable class here in the near future. tag tag takes it's name from the "touch and go" electric starter, but the fun comes from the greater horsepower of these 125cc high revving 2-cycles, matched with the grip of the softer compuound tires. the only thing faster are the shifters. there are several popular engine brands being used in national series, with classes from age 8 on. racing has been sporadic as of late at pkra, with many opting for less costly 4-cycles. there appears to be interest in the air cooled 100cc motors; however, which reduce cost over these higher horsepower 125cc cousins. shifter pkra has fostered some of the nations top shifter kart pilots. shifter karts are exciting, and action packed. if you are familiar with
